Parkside Baptist Church affirms the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith

(Chapter 22, paragraph 8 of the 1689 London Baptist Confession concerns “the Christian Sabbath.” As was the common practice of the era and culture, the writers of the 1689 LBC believed that Christians were obligated to keep the Sabbath, though on Sunday rather than Saturday. Therefore they discouraged everything from work to recreation. This is an issue where Parkside Baptist Church has taken the approach that such are matters of conscience. We have not and do not plan on promoting a mandated Sabbath observance. Ultimately our Sabbath rest is in the finished work of Christ (Hebrews 4:9; Matthew 11:28; Colossians 2:16-17).)

THE BIBLE – We believe the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, infallible, sufficient and authoritative Word of God.

GOD – We believe there is one God, who exists eternally in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

JESUS CHRIST – We believe in the full deity and humanity of our Lord Jesus Christ, including His virgin birth, sinless life, substitutionary death, bodily resurrection, ascension to the right hand of the Father, and bodily return in power and glory.

SALVATION – We believe all men are sinful, separated from God, and unable to save themselves. Salvation is only through grace alone, by faith alone, in Christ alone.

THE HOLY SPIRIT – We believe in the full deity of the Holy Spirit, who indwells every believer, enabling obedience and spiritual growth, and He preserves each one unto eternity.

THE CHURCH – We believe that the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ is comprised of all the redeemed of the present age. We believe commitment to the local church is necessary for spiritual health.

EXPOSITORY PREACHING – We teach the primacy of the preaching of God’s Word in the church. The inerrancy, authority and sufficiency of Scripture demand the centrality of this life-changing ministry.

DIVINE SOVEREIGNTY – We teach that God possesses and exercises supreme authority over all the affairs of this world. He has chosen those whom He will save before the foundation of the world and is calling these elect ones to Himself within time.

ELDER LED – We teach the local church is to be shepherded by a plurality of scripturally qualified godly men known as elders. These spiritually mature men are to be supported by the service of deacons.

SPIRITUAL GIFTS – We teach that many of the gifts of the Holy Spirit are in use today, but that the miraculous gifts were restricted to the apostolic age.

PRE-TRIBULATIONAL RAPTURE – We teach that the Lord Jesus Christ shall come for His church prior to the time of tribulation that will precede His return in power and glory.

PRE-MILLENNIAL RETURN – We teach that the Lord Jesus Christ shall, upon His return, establish His Millennial Kingdom and reign over all the earth from His throne in Jerusalem for one thousand years.
